Freaky Friday Questions

NAMM 2008 011

It’s the time again!  Friday is again upon us.  This has been a freaky week here as we gear up for NAMM 2011.  Not so much preparing for NAMM, but the weather.  I wish I had the forethought to take a picture, but it was a white winter wonderland for about 20 minutes with a flurry of snow.  But just as quick, it went away and left a bitter cold behind.

The good news is, it’s Friday, which means that for most of us, cue music ‘Everybody’s working for the weekend’.  But before the weekend begins, I’ve sorted through the questions that have come through this week (and there are a few that actually made me laugh out loud) and here are the ones that have made the cut:

Q: do you guys laugh everytime you have to say nuts? – J.L – Nebraska

A: We’re nuts about nuts and you should be too!  Let’s just say that we’re serious about nuts, but we have a lot of fun too.

Q: i used to get a prduct called tremnut which is great and i really like it.  but i dont see it on your site anymore? – J.A – Washington

A:  Trem-nut has been renamed to Black TUSQ XL.  The product is exactly the same, the name has just been changed!  You can find the product on our website here.

Q:  What is manmade ivory? – B.L – Missouri

A:  TUSQ is our proprietary nut and saddle material and was made to look like ivory.  However, compared to standard materials such as ivory, bone, micarta or corian, you’ll hear more harmonics with every note you play when you use TUSQ on your guitar.

TUSQ has quickly become an important tone performance tool for some of the world’s most renowned guitar manufacturers, luthiers and playing professionals.

TUSQ nuts and saddles have rich tone and sustain, without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone and other natural materials.  Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top.  TUSQ nuts, saddles and bridge pins are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string  to the guitar body.  Acoustic guitars come alive!

* Rich Tone: a crystal clear bell like high end and big open low end.
* Engineered for maximum vibration transfer.
* Consistent quality from piece to piece and within each piece.
* Easy to work with – can be filed and sanded; will not chip or flake
* Laboratory-proven to enhance harmonic content (up to 200%)
* Used by the world’s finest guitar manufacturers.
* No flat or dead spots that can be found in bone or ivory.

Q: are you going to NAMM? – M.K – Wisconsin

A: Graph Tech will be at NAMM 2011 this year.  We will be at the same booth 5920.  If you will be at the show, please drop by!  We would love to meet you.

That concludes another Freaky Friday.  Please send in your questions to

We’ll change the way you play.
